On Saturday, South Carolina picked up a commitment from junior college linebacker Eldridge Thompson.
Originally from Memphis, Tenn., Thompson is a entering his second season at Coffeyville Community College in Kansas, the same school cornerback JaMarcus King attended before enrolling at South Carolina.
Thompson picked up an offer from the Gamecocks during his visit on Saturday. Coach Will Muschamp accepted his commitment shortly thereafter.
When asked about his decision, Eldridge said he felt comfortable with South Carolina.
“How their defense they run fits perfectly with my playing style,” he said, “And how the coaches want the best for their players on and off the field.”
As a freshman, Thompson led Coffeyville with 102 tackles. He also had three sacks and an interception.
Four-star wide receiver Shi Smith committed to the Gamecocks’ 2017 class just moments before Thompson’s pledge was made.
