On Monday, 4-star linebacker Channing Tindall, the top-rated 2018 recruit from the state of South Carolina, received a significant bump in his recruiting ranking.
Tindall, who attends Spring Valley High School (Columbia, S.C.), began the day as 247Sports’ No. 45 overall prospect in the Class of 2018 before vaulting 23 spots to No. 22. Previously fourth, he’s also now listed as the top overall outside linebacker in the country.
The distance between Tindall and a 5-star rating is also significantly shorter. Palaie Gaoteote, an inside linebacker from Las Vegas, is last among the 14 5-star prospects on the 247Sports rankings.
Tindall’s first major rise up the recruiting rankings came earlier this spring when he was among the standouts at The Opening’s regional event in Atlanta. Apparently, he didn’t disappoint a few weeks ago during the finals in Oregon.
South Carolina has long been considered as the team to beat for Tindall, who visited the Gamecocks last month during the Will Muschamp Football Camp. However, there’s plenty of competition amongst their peers in the SEC.
Auburn, followed by Georgia and Florida, could be the biggest threat to unseating the hometown team.
For the Gamecocks, Tindall would occupy a role that’s similar to that of senior Bryson Allen-Williams.
