South Carolina’s non-conference basketball slate just gained some star power.
The Gamecocks will travel to Memphis to play a game Dec. 30 against a storied Tigers program, the two programs announced Monday.

South Carolina and Memphis played against each other as members of the Metro Conference between 1983 and 1991. Memphis, then called Memphis State, was one of the founding members of the conference and was a member until it dissolved in 1995.
The Gamecocks are 6-18 against the Tigers, though they won the last game between the two teams, 86-76, in January.
South Carolina is coming off an appearance in the National Invitational Tournament under Frank Martin last season. Memphis is breaking in new head coach Tubby Smith, the former Kentucky coach who won a national title in his first season with the Wildcats in 1998.
