South Carolina will have a new official radio voice for its men’s basketball and baseball broadcasts beginning this season. However, it’s not a voice unfamiliar to the program.
On Thursday, South Carolina announced Derek Scott would take over the play-by-play radio broadcast for the Gamecocks’ men’s hoops and baseball teams. Scott has done television and radio play for several South Carolina teams since 2007, while also hosting its “Inside the Roost” weekly show highlighting all of the Gamecocks’ programs.
“While searching for the next play-by-play voice for men’s basketball and baseball, we came across many talented individuals,” South Carolina Athletics Director Ray Tanner said in a release. “However, during the interview process and after talking with our coaches and staff, Derek emerged as our top candidate. I’m pleased that we can continue to have Derek as part of our Gamecock family.”
Scott will also continue to serve as Senior Account Executive for Gamecock IMG Sports Marketing, working with corporate partnerships.
Scott’s debut as the official play-by-play voice will be Nov. 11 when the Gamecocks’ men’s basketball team hosts Louisiana Tech.
“Derek has been a part of our program for the past four years and he understands our fan base and the growth of our program,” South Carolina hoops coach Frank Martin said in a release. “Derek will do an unbelievable job and will continue to do a great job informing our fans about our team.”
