Will Muschamp has quite the tall task of selecting a starting quarterback for the 2016 season.
Fortunately for the first-year South Carolina coach, and the Gamecocks, one player has already stepped up to the plate.
Placekicker Elliott Fry hosted a mock press conference announcing how to solve the Gamecocks’ quarterback conundrum, and did so fittingly at the same place and time as the South Carolina coaches and players meet with the media during the college football season.
“I’d like to make a quick announcement for my senior year,” Fry began.
“I will be playing starting quarterback for the University of South Carolina. “With all that being said, this is what you dream about being a kid — playing your senior year as starting quarterback at a university like this. It’s a privilege to come here and put on this garnet jersey, and represent not only myself (and my team).”
Fry connected on 71.4 percent of his field-goal attempts in 2015 and led South Carolina in scoring.
For comparison’s sake, only redshirt sophomore quarterback Michael Scarnecchia had a better completion percentage passing for the Gamecocks, and he attempted only one pass.
