Sean Kelly’s role has been important to South Carolina this season.
With a scuffling offense through the first six games, the senior punter has been called upon to flip the field and put the South Carolina defense in a good position to succeed.
He has done a solid job of that was nominated for the 2016 Ray Guy Award for his season.
The 5-foot-10, 190-pound Kelly has punted 51 times this season with an average of 41.6 yards per punt. He has eight kicks of 50 yards or longer on the season, with a long of 66 yards.
He also has landed 22 inside the 20-yard line.
Kelly is one of 66 finalists for the award. The list will be narrowed to 10 on Nov. 11. Sports information directors, coaches, media and previous Ray Guy Award winners will vote on the finalists, which will be announced on Nov. 22. The group of voters again will vote to select the winner. The 2016 winner will be announced during the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards show on Dec. 8.
