South Carolina, here he comes.
South Carolina’s top quarterback commit Brandon McIlwain announced he will forgo the 2016 MLB Draft and enroll early to play football for the Gamecocks.
McIlwain, a 6-foot, 200-pound 4-star dual-threat quarterback, has reaffirmed his commitment to South Carolina and is ready to take the next step in Columbia, S.C. after Will Muschamp was hired to be the next coach.
“I’ve decided to forgo the MLB draft and enroll early to play baseball and football at SC,” McIlwain tweeted out Thursday afternoon.
McIlwain was recently named a top-10 prospect leading up to the MLB draft by ESPN, to which the quarterback was humbled.
“It’s an amazing honor,” McIlwain told SEC Country. “Any time all the hard work is recognized, it feels great.”
Last week, Muschamp and new Gamecocks offensive coordinator Kurt Roper made an in-home visit to the prized quarterback commit.
Both Penn State and Cal had been making a strong push for McIlwain as South Carolina looked to fill its coaching vacancy. However, he remained committed to the Gamecocks even with the new regime coming in.
