South Carolina quarterback Lorenzo Nunez wants it to be known he did not play in Saturday’s loss to The Citadel because he was hurt.
“I was hurt in Missouri game,” he tweeted. (I was) never 100 (percent). (I was) reinjured in (Florida) game. I didn’t practice all week. Looking forward to full recovery.”

Nunez took to Twitter on Sunday afternoon to explain himself to the Gamecocks community.
Earlier Sunday, South Carolina interim coach Shawn Elliott said Nunez declared himself unavailable right before the game, which came as a surprise.
“We thought he was well enough to dress this past weekend,” Elliott said during his weekly teleconference.
“We live in a day and age where people walk up and say ‘I think I’m going to sit this one out’ for some reason. He didn’t feel like he was well enough to get out there on the field Saturday.”
Elliott added that there were packages designed for the freshman quarterback, and that his status remains up in the air going into the finale against No. 1-ranked Clemson.
“He’s certainly in our plans, if he can play,” Elliott said. “He was in our plans yesterday … He’s a bit dinged up and he didn’t feel comfortable playing right now. I don’t see how much sense there is making packages for someone you don’t know who’s going to play. It probably doesn’t make a whole lot of sense at this point.”
