Two South Carolina quarterbacks stand out to Will Muschamp, but the Gamecocks will be without one of their reserves for the 2016 season.
Sophomore Michael Scarnecchia will miss next season after suffering a shoulder injury in the offseason that required surgery, according to The State’s Josh Kendall.
Scarnecchia was not viewed as a serious contender in the Gamecocks’ quarterback competition. Freshman Brandon McIlwain and senior Perry Orth were listed as co-starters on the Gamecocks post-spring depth chart, and 4-star quarterback Jake Bentley has since arrived on campus to join the festivities.
Lorenzo Nunez, who played in eight games last season, is now splitting time at quarterback and wide receiver. He passed for 376 yards and three touchdowns last season, while also adding 375 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
After redshirting in 2014, Scarnecchia saw action in one game last season, completing his only pass for nine yards against LSU.
