Four-star tackle Warren McClendon, whose cousin is the Gamecocks’ offensive coordinator, eventually could land in the 2019 South Carolina recruiting class.
On Wednesday morning, he unveiled a top-5 list of Auburn, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina and Tennessee.
Bryan McClendon, the Gamecocks’ first-year offensive coordinator, provides the family connection to Columbia. And that’s an angle that could help South Carolina reel in the 6-foot-5, 290-pound prospect from Brunswick (Ga.) High School.
“Mostly, [Bryan] says if I come to South Carolina, I’ll have family and I can get a home-cooked meal once a week,” Warren told SEC Country last year.
Earlier this week, the 2019 tackle confirmed plans to visit Auburn next week. There’s no word yet about his next visit to South Carolina, but one would have to imagine it won’t be long before he’s back in Columbia.
According to the 247Sports composite, Warren is ranked as the No. 25 tackle in the Class of 2019. Among prospects from the state of Georgia, he’s ranked No. 28, which is one spot behind 4-star defensive end Curtis Fann Jr., who is another major South Carolina recruiting target.
Of the six predictions issued on the 247Sports Crystal Ball, three are for South Carolina. McClendon would have another prediction for the Gamecocks if this SEC Country reporter had access to the feature.
