The South Carolina recruiting class only has a few spots left, one of which is reserved for Bryce Thompson, who’s now a 4-star athlete, according to Rivals.
Thompson (6-0, 185) was previously rated as a 3-star. He’s now the No. 222 overall prospect in the Class of 2018, after being unranked by Rivals.
Here’s what Rivals southeast recruiting analyst Woody Wommack had to say about Thompson:
- “We’ve always known Thompson was a talented player but he took his game to another level over the past six months. He impressed while playing all over the field and leading his team to the state championship, and continued that impressive play while working at wide receiver at the Shrine Bowl. Word is South Carolina wants him to play defense in college but it’s hard to imagine him not having the ball in his hands at the next level.”
In December, the Dutch Fork High School (Irmo, S.C.) standout announced his commitment to South Carolina. The former Virginia Tech pledge rushed for 1,392 yards with 28 touchdowns and tallied over 600 yards receiving and 6 scores as a senior.
During the 5A state title game at Williams-Brice Stadium, Thompson rushed for 136 yards, had a 72-yard punt return for touchdown and a 25-yard scoring run.
Among members of the Gamecocks 2018 class, only cornerback Jaycee Horn (189), wide receiver Josh Vann (191) and quarterback Dakereon Joyner (199) are ranked higher in the national standings than Thompson.
