Pack lands 2018 QB Devin Leary
N.C. State landed a commitment from 2018 quarterback Devin Leary on Thursday. The 3-star prospect from Sicklerville, N.J., is set to join a roster with four scholarship quarterbacks, none of whom are seniors.
What makes that significant for this space?
South Carolina quarterback target Dakereon Joyner (North Charleston, S.C.) has seriously considered N.C. State among his options. An industry source indicated that the Wolfpack may no longer be an option for Joyner, though he could potentially be a take as a quarterback/athlete.
The source said the Wolfpack coaches were ready to accept a commitment from either one of the two quarterbacks. It was just a matter of who was ready to commit first.
Up next for the 4-star prospect are trips to Alabama, Auburn and Oregon, before his Father’s Day announcement.
The day began with South Carolina sending out a pair of offers to 2019 prospects from Grayson (Ga.) High School: 4-star (247Sports) outside linebacker Kevin Harris and cornerback Jalen Alexander.
Harris (6-foot-5, 205 pounds) is listed as the No. 8 outside linebacker in the country and the 14th-best 2019 prospect from the state of Georgia. Georgia, Maryland and Tennessee have offered. Alexander (6-0, 155) also has an offer from Auburn.
A couple of other notable South Carolina targets landed offers on Thursday.
Minnesota graduate transfer defensive end Gaelin Elmore added Arizona to his list. He’s set to be on the South Carolina campus on Sunday to start his official visit. A visit to East Carolina is set for later this month.
Three-star quarterback Tyler Shough, who visited South Carolina for two days last weekend, picked up an Missouri offer. But Michigan, which offered earlier in the week, could be too tough for everyone to overcome.
Three-star wide receiver Jatavious Harris tweeted on Thursday afternoon that he will be in Columbia this weekend.
SEC Country reached out for some of the details. As it turns out, Harris will arrive on Friday for a track meet scheduled for Saturday, then head back home to Milledgeville, Ga.
The 6-3, 185-pound wide receiver from Baldwin High School didn’t respond when asked if he’d stop by for a visit with the Gamecocks’ football coaches.
