On Monday night, the 2019 South Carolina recruiting class landed a commitment from Myers Park High School (Charlotte, N.C.) offensive tackle Jaylen Nichols.
The Gamecocks accepted his commitment as an offensive lineman.
“They were super happy; they said I made a great choice and they have big plans for the future,” Nichols told SEC Country.
With his commitment, he joins Ahdarrious Gee (Cordele, Ga.) and defensive end Rodricus Fitten (Atlanta) in the Gamecocks 2019 haul.
“It felt right and they have been consistent,” Nichols said.
Nichols (6-foot-5, 300 pounds) is ranked by the 247Sports composite as the No. 43 defensive tackle in the Class of 2019. Indiana has also offered him a scholarship.
The Gamecocks hosted him for a couple of visits this season, first for the Kentucky game and again for the Clemson game. He also visited in the summer for one of the SpursUp recruiting events.
“I think they’re doing pretty well right now,” said Nichols after his visit for the Kentucky game. “I don’t see anything that they’re doing wrong. They’re getting better.”
All three of South Carolina’s 2019 commitments are 3-star prospects. Fitten (6-3, 220) is the No. 24 weakside defensive end in the class. Gee, who was first to jump on board, checks in as the No. 12 inside linebacker.
