South Carolina recruiting has gotten off to a nice start with the class of 2018, as the Gamecocks are already up 12 commitments halfway through the summer.
When Will Muschamp was hired a little more than a year ago, there were questions about how his teams — specifically his offenses — would perform on the field. But there was little question that Muschamp and his staff would recruit well. That has proven to be the case, as the Gamecocks have gotten in on several top prospects in the past two recruiting cycles.
You can add another big name to that list today, as South Carolina made the top five for 4-star safety C.J. Smith on Saturday afternoon:

A former Florida commit, Smith is the 248th best player in the country, according to 247Sports’ composite rankings. As that top five list indicates, the Gamecocks will have some stiff competition to reel him in. But Muschamp and his staff have had success recruiting Florida — Smith hails from West Palm Beach — in the past, and are certainly hoping they can convince Smith to make the relatively short drive north to play his college ball.
