Five-star defensive end Xavier Thomas, a Clemson commitment since April, made a rather significant announcement on Friday, via Twitter.
Thomas, who’s ranked by the 247Sports composite as the No. 3 overall prospect in the Class of 2018, committed to Clemson in April, a week after he was on South Carolina’s campus for the spring game.
Originally from Wilson High School in Florence, S.C., Thomas is currently enrolled at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. The 6-foot-3, 263-pound prospect visited Clemson last Saturday for the Auburn game, before returning to his home in Florence, where he’s spent the last few days, because of Hurricane Irma.
Thomas is now on the way back to Florida, to return to IMG Academy.
SEC Country reported on Thursday night that Thomas was “supposed” to visit South Carolina on Saturday for the Kentucky game, though the source was skeptical that the visit would actually happen.
Word of Thomas’ travel arrangements to Bradenton, Fla. on Friday was reported also by SEC Country.
While it appears that this week’s developments were much ado about nothing, Thomas’ recruitment will remain as a storyline, for now, or at least until he enrolls at Clemson in January.
