The state of Georgia regularly produces some of the country’s best football players. It’s right there with California, Florida and Texas. Per capita, however, South Carolina and Alabama are also among the best.

But let’s not get too far off track. Georgia’s crop of talent for the 2019 recruiting class, as usual, is super deep. South Carolina already lists commitments from one Peach State prospect: 3-star defensive end Rodricus Fitten, who’s from Atlanta.
Others will join him. It’s a matter of when, not if. As for the prospects who will commit to South Carolina, we’ll find out over the next six months or so. Below are a few of the players SEC Country thinks should be most wanted by the Gamecocks.
Reach for the stars
5-star WR Jadon Haselwood (Cedar Grove HS, Ellenwood): OK, so it doesn’t seem likely that South Carolina will be able to flip him from Georgia. However, he is from South Carolina, still has family near Columbia and has visited several times over the last year or so. The guy’s a future pro, no matter where he ends up playing college ball.
What’s good, fam?
4-star OL Warren McClendon (Brunswick): His cousin is South Carolina’s offensive coordinator, Bryan McClendon. Most folks in the industry believe that connection will help seal the deal for the Gamecocks. Who else is in contention? Florida? Maybe Georgia and Clemson, too.
Both sides of the ball
4-star S Jaylen McCollough (Hillgrove HS, Powder Springs): So what is he, a safety or a running back? Well, South Carolina’s coaches are telling him he could play both. From this perspective, he looks more like a safety in the SEC. It’s shaping up to be a battle between South Carolina, Alabama, Auburn and Tennessee, among others.
4-star LB Kalen DeLoach (Islands HS, Savannah): South Carolina got in on the ground floor with DeLoach. There was a time when we wondered what was taking everyone else so long. Well, Auburn, Clemson and Florida State are in the mix now, too.
4-star DE Curtis Fann Jr. (Emanuel County Institute, Twin City): This guy doesn’t just rely on his size and strength to lean on opposing offensive linemen. He’s got a set of really good, quick hands to get past blockers. Maybe that’s why Auburn, Clemson and Florida State are among those challenging South Carolina.
