Tra Wilkins and 18 of his teammates from Stephenson High School (Stone Mountain, Ga.) visited South Carolina on Saturday.
Wilkins, a 6-foot-2, 210-pound linebacker in the 2019 class, was offered by South Carolina in December, between offers from Alabama and Louisville. At the time, he was still a student at Lithonia (Ga.) High School.
Now, he’s enrolled at the same school that sent D.J. Wonnum to South Carolina.
“Me and my teammates enjoyed it,” Wilkins said of the visit Saturday. “I got to meet all the coaches personally and everything, got to know them better. I got to talk to Coach Muschamp.”
Plenty stood out.
“How they help you. The whole coaching staff and the players really care about it,” Wilkins said.
It was also his first time meeting the Gamecocks’ head coach.
“He’s real straight-up. He doesn’t sugar-coat anything. I like that a lot,” Wilkins said.
South Carolina’s coaches had a pretty simple, but direct message.
“How much they really would like me to be a part of their program,” Wilkins said.
This year, he’s also visited Alabama, Clemson and Georgia. Up next are trips to Tennessee and Vanderbilt.
According to 247Sports, Wilkins is rated as a 3-star and ranked as the No. 70 athlete in the Class of 2019.
Offered by South Carolina
At least three of the guests on campus Saturday reeled in an offer from the Gamecocks.
- 2020 defensive end Desmond Evans (Sanford, N.C.)
- 2020 lineman Seth McLaughlin (Buford, Ga.)
- 2020 defensive back Jalen Huff (Buford, Ga.)
Evans (6-foot-6, 210) is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 38 overall prospect in the Class of 2020. Kentucky, North Carolina and North Carolina State are among his other early offers.
South Carolina was first to offer McLaughlin (6-4, 265).
Huff, who is a cousin of Gamecock defensive back Jamyest Williams, is a 5-foot-11, 165-pound prospect with offers from Kentucky, Louisville and Syracuse.
