Whenever Will Muschamp lands a commitment, the South Carolina coach drops a #SpursUp on Twitter. Come to SEC Country for the latest news, notes and observations in South Carolina recruiting.
With trips last month to South Carolina, Maryland and Rutgers now in the rearview mirror, 3-star tackle Raiqwon O’Neal now shifts his attention to his commitment date, Aug. 16, which is also his grandmother’s birthday.
O’Neal, a 2018 prospect from Conway (S.C.) High School, has offers from those three schools as well as from Illinois, Indiana, Louisville, Michigan, Central Florida, Virginia, West Virginia and others.
All options are on the table for O’Neal, who’s set to reveal his decision on WPDE-TV, the ABC affiliate in Myrtle Beach/Florence. He’ll go live around 6:20 p.m. on Aug. 16.
The No. 20 2018 in-state prospect per 247Sports composite is being recruiting by South Carolina and Maryland as a defensive lineman. Rutgers views him as an offensive lineman.
The Gamecocks offered in June, after a strong showing during Will Muschamp Camp. O’Neal returned in July for the Spurs Up recruiting cookout.
“It was good. It was good getting to sit down with coach Muschamp and [defensive line] coach [Lance] Thompson, just talking with them, me and my family,” he said.
Last Thursday and Friday, O’Neal was at Rutgers.
“It was good. I loved the campus,” he said.
Maryland, which hosted him on Saturday, has a “pretty good campus.”
“It’s small, you can get to all classes,” O’Neal said. “You can get from your dorm to class and practice in less than 10 minutes. That’s how far it is.”
East Carolina, Georgia Tech, North Carolina State and Wake Forest were visited earlier in the summer.
“Right now, I’m just seeing who will persuade me to come, and to just be honest with me, what they’re going to do with me, too,” O’Neal said.
