This edition has a distinct hoops flavor, because several of the state’s top prospects were in Columbia on Monday afternoon for the third annual MLK Bash at Eau Claire High School.
The event, which is organized by former South Carolina point guard Carey Rich, featured three of the highest-rated 2019 prospects from the state.
South Carolina hea coach Frank Martin was on hand for the Hartsville-Cardinal Newman and Ridge View-Keenan games. Below is the latest on several of the prospects from those two games and a couple in-between.
• 4-star power forward D.J. Burns — York Prep-Rock Hill (6-foot-9, 255 pounds)
Offers: Auburn, Georgia, Georgia Tech, LSU, South Carolina, Oklahoma State, Tennessee, Virginia, Virginia Tech
South Carolina’s interest: “[Martin] talks to my parents a lot, but I don’t really talk to him as much, but he’s still [in contact]. I talk to coach [Perry] Clark. Coach Clark is the one who really talks to me.”
No. 4 in-state
• 4-star point guard Deuce Dean — York Prep-Irmo (6-3, 170)
Offers: Charlotte, Colorado State, High Point, Kansas State, Saint Joseph’s, The Citadel, Toledo, Virginia Tech
South Carolina’s interest: “They send mail up to the school every week to me and D.J., but they don’t really text much.”

• 3-star center Malcolm Wilson — Ridge View-Columbia (6-10, 205)
Offers: Clemson, South Carolina, S.C. State, VCU
South Carolina’s interest: “We’ve been communicating, texting back and forth. I’m not sure when I’ll be back there. [Assistant coach Chuck Martin’s] a really calm guy, like me. It doesn’t feel like I have any pressure when I’m talking to him. It’s just a good conversation.”
No. 7 in-state
• Small forward Calvin Felder — Sumter (6-7, 185)
Offers: Auburn, Clemson, Florida Gulf Coast, Mississippi State, Marquette, UNLV, Virginia Tech
South Carolina’s interest: “Frank texts me and says he likes my game and whatnot. He regularly has me come up for visits and I like the campus. It makes it great that it’s home, like the hometown college. It is one of my top choices.”
• Point guard Trae Hannibal — Hartsville (6-1, 200)
Offers: Oklahoma State, S.C. State, Stetson
South Carolina’s message: “Just try and be family. [Frank Martin’s] getting to know me and I’m getting to know him. Hopefully, I’ll catch a game soon because we play on the same days. Everything’s working out and he likes me. I love campus.”
