Burns (6-9, 235) has several high-major offers, including Georgia, Georgia Tech, LSU, Oklahoma State, Tennessee and Virginia Tech.
O’Neal also carries a sizable profile, listing Power 5 offers from Georgia Tech, Illinois, Louisville, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi State, Purdue, Rutgers and West Virginia, among several others.
Coach Will Muschamp and defensive line coach Lance Thompson extended the offer while he was on campus Thursday for camp.
“They wanted to see me do a couple of things first before the offer and they liked what I did, so they offered me,” O’Neal said.
According to the 247Sports composite, O’Neal (6-5, 265) is ranked as the No. 69 offensive tackle in the Class of 2018. Muschamp prefers him for the other side of the ball.
“He liked what I did and said I could come be a part of the Gamecocks and he wants me to be part of the rebuilding process, to play for the SEC Championship,” O’Neal said.
Earlier this summer, he visited Georgia and Georgia Tech for camp. In July, he’ll head up north to visit a few other schools that have offered.
O’Neal plans to make a commitment at some point during or after his senior season.
“I just want to get to the schools and see them for myself, before I make any decision,” he said.
According to the 247Sports composite, O’Neal is the No. 13 overall prospect from the state of South Carolina’s 2018 recruiting cycle. In the state’s 2019 basketball haul, Burns is No. 4.
