One day after South Carolina coach Will Muschamp fired equipment manager, Chris Matlock, the longtime Gamecocks employee announced he will stay on the staff after all.
Matlock has been with South Carolina since 2000, following Lou Holtz from Notre Dame. Matlock and his staff were fired by Muschamp on Friday, who declined to comment on the decision.
At a baseball game on Saturday, South Carolina athletic director Ray Tanner confirmed to Matt Connolly of The State that Matlock will remain on the staff. Muschamp also parted ways with longtime Gamecocks chaplain Adrian Despres, who had been with the team for 17 years until March.
