D.J. Park was once a coveted four-star prospect in South Carolina, but after joining the Gamecocks in 2013, redshirted and only received minimal action the past two seasons on special teams.
Now with a new coaching staff, Park may finally get a chance to produce in a larger role. The redshirt junior is listed as the starting right tackle on the Gamecocks’ preseason depth chart.
“D.J. has made tremendous strides,” South Carolina coach Will Muschamp said, according to a report from The State‘s Ben Breiner. “He’s really done a good job at the right tackle position. He and (sophomore) Blake Camper are battling. I have a lot of confidence in D.J.”
Park is focused on slimming down ahead of the season opener in the fall, when he hopes to cement his status as the starter. But for now, he is enjoying the opportunity to compete for real playing time.
“It’s been great,” Park said, per Breiner. “I’ve been on second team two years now, I’m finally getting my chance at a starting spot, so I’m just going there to take it.”
