COLUMBIA, S.C. – Will Muschamp is in no rush to hire an offensive line coach as South Carolina prepares for the Birmingham Bowl, but he does have a plan in place for the coming weeks.
Muschamp said Tuesday that John Latina, a former offensive line coach at Duke and Ole Miss, will come out of retirement to coach the Gamecocks offensive line before it plays South Florida.
“For the bowl game only, John Latina will coach our offensive line,” Muschamp said. “A guy I’ve got tremendous respect for in the profession.”
When it comes to hiring a full-time coach, Muschamp will wait until after the bowl game.
“I will not hire an offensive line coach until after the first of the year,” he said. “I’m still talking to some people and want to make sure we take due diligence to hire the best person for us.”
Former South Carolina offensive line coach Shawn Elliott accepted the head coaching job at Georgia State last week.
