South Carolina will open 2017 season against North Carolina State
South Carolina will kick off its 2017 season against North Carolina State in the Belk College Kickoff Game at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, N.C, the school announced on Tuesday.
South Carolina defeated North Carolina in the 2015 Belk College Kickoff Game, but will not play in the 2016 edition.
The Gamecocks anxiously await their return in 2017, South Carolina Athletics Director Ray Tanner said.
“The Charlotte market continues to be important for our university and athletics program,” said Tanner in a press release Tuesday. “I am appreciative of the opportunity provided by the Charlotte Sports Foundation to continue our presence in the Belk College Kickoff Game, playing NC State in 2017. We look forward to a great game and a quality atmosphere for our student-athletes, coaches, staff, alumni and fans.”
The Charlotte Sports Foundation has now scheduled five games to be played in Bank of America Stadium.
South Carolina and NC State will play in 2017; Tennessee and West Virginia will play in 2018; South Carolina and North Carolina will meet in 2019 and again in 2023.
South Carolina will face NC State for the teams’ 58th meeting in 2017. The Gamecocks hold a 27-26-4 edge in the series.
The teams last met in 2009 when South Carolina earned a 7-3 victory.
