South Carolina wide receiver Deebo Samuel is not dressed for the Gamecocks’ game against East Carolina on Saturday.
Samuel, who has four catches for 66 yards this season, tweaked a hamstring last week, as reported by SEC Country’s Mike Wilson. Samuel has had two catches in each of the Gamecocks’ first two games. He had 12 catches for 161 yards with one touchdown last year, when he also dealt with hamstring issues.
“We are continuing to work through it,” South Carolina coach Will Muschamp said about Samuel on his call-in show Thursday. “Hamstring is one of those things. It’s more about his strength levels than anything. We have looked at everything as far as his diet. We’ve gone back and tried to research. In the catapult system, which we use to monitor our players as far as their workloads and things are concerned, we went back in the spring he had more workload than he has had at all in fall camp. Why he is had an issue as we move into it – he had an issue apparently the year before. It’s something we need to work through because he’s a playmaker for us and a guy that we need to have healthy.”
