South Carolina’s leading rusher Brandon Wilds questionable for Saturday
South Carolina senior running back Brandon Wilds is listed as questionable for the Gamecocks’ game with Central Florida because of a bruised rib sustained against UGA, according to David Caraviello of The Post and Courier.
Senior Shon Carson would start in place of Wilds.
Earlier in the week, South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier left open the possibility of Wilds playing against UCF on Saturday.
“Whether or not he’ll play, I guess we’ll find out Friday or Saturday,” Spurrier said in a press conference Tuesday.
Wilds has rushed for 181 yards and averaged 5.2 yards per carry through three games. Carson, meanwhile, has rushed for 118 yards and a touchdown at a rate of 7.4 yards per carry.
Sophomores David Williams and Rod Talley will take over second and third- string duties, respectively, if Wilds can’t play. In his Tuesday press conference, Spurrier commented on the play of Williams, who has only rushed for 82 yards at 3.9 yards per carry this season.
“We’re not giving up on David,” Spurrier said. “He has struggled. He fell down behind the line on that play last week. But he’s a good back. We just can’t get him going. “Hopefully he’ll get in there and get going maybe some this week.”
#Gamecocks TB Brandon Wilds remains questionable. Shon Carson to start, David Williams 2nd, Rod Talley 3rd. Terry Googer now 3rd starting WR
