South Carolina guard Rakym Felder may want to squeeze in a Spanish class before August. Felder, who will be a sophomore next season, has been selected to play on the USA East Coast team in Madrid, Spain, this summer.
According to a release from South Carolina, Felder will play on this collegiate all-star team led by coaching legend Larry Brown. USA East Coast will arrive in Madrid on Aug. 7 to begin its tour, during which it will play national teams from Japan, Venezuela, Mexico, and Senegal.
“I’m blessed to receive an opportunity to travel to Spain and represent the USA East Coast team,” Felder said in the school’s release. “I’m looking forward to competing with other great players and learning new things that can take my game to the next level.”
On the USA East Coast 2014 tour, former Gamecocks star Sindarious Thornwell played on the team that was coached by current South Carolina coach Frank Martin.
“The opportunity this summer with USA East Coast will be a tremendous experience for Rakym in both basketball and life,” Martin said. “He will be surrounded by a great roster and will spend time learning from a great basketball mind in Larry Brown.”
As a freshman in 2015-16, Felder averaged 5.6 points, 1.5 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game.
