Whenever Will Muschamp lands a commitment, the South Carolina coach drops a #SpursUp on Twitter. Come to SEC Country for the latest news, notes and observations on the prospects who could be the newest Gamecocks.
Since his arrival in December, Muschamp has hosted several major recruiting events at South Carolina, but Saturday will be the first game day opportunity for the Gamecocks first-year head coach.
Muschamp told reporters earlier this week of the staff’s recruiting procedures for this weekend.
“We have a recruiting office that organizes the prospective student-athletes that come to campus. Their sole job and operation on game day is to do that,” he said. “As coaches, in pregame, we spend a lot of time with the prospective student-athletes. The game plan is finished. We spend time with them, including myself.
“During the game, our recruiting staff entertains the players, prospective student-athletes, then after the game, we’ll spend time with them.”
South Carolina officials have already announced the ECU game as a sell-out, so the confirmed list of recruiting visitors will get to experience 80,250 fans in Williams-Brice Stadium.
“That’s one of the huge selling points and the University of South Carolina is our game day atmosphere,” Muschamp said. “Come to Columbia on a Saturday afternoon to see all there is to do within our town, all the diversity and events we have in Columbia.”
Five-star from Spartanburg
South Carolina is among the many schools that have been checking on 5-star SF Zion Williamson, a 2018 prospect from Spartanburg (S.C.) Day School.
Phil Kornblut recently caught up with Williams, who’s listed as the No. 6 overall prospect in the country.
“South Carolina, I love their style of play and I love the way Coach Martin coaches his players, he preaches defense,” Williamson said. “What he tells me is I need to really think hard about South Carolina because if I do have the opportunity to go pro, I won’t be able to play in South Carolina. My only chance to play in South Carolina is in college.”
