COLUMBIA, S.C. — After four days of preseason camp, South Carolina’s first-team defense is starting to take shape.
Things certainly can change after all of the pads are added on Saturday morning, but Chaz Elder said he and D.J. Smith are running exclusively with the first-team at safety.
Cornerback is a different story, according to Elder, who said the coaches have rotated several players in and out with the first-team. Marc King, one of the cornerbacks expected to push for first-team duties this fall, told reporters that he rotates in and out with Chris Lammons and Rico McWilliams.
Elder told reporters that Rashad Fenton is the first-team nickel back with Jordan Diggs working behind him.
At linebacker, Bryson Allen-Williams has a couple of roles. He’s worked at WILL (weak-side) linebacker, alongside T.J. Holloman and Jonathan Walton. Allen-Williams said the trio rotates in and out with the first-team in nickel (two linebacker) situations. He’s also starting in the dime package (one linebacker).
