Perry Orth is South Carolina’s new starting quarterback after sophomore Connor Mitch went down with a separated shoulder, and the former walk-on is receiving encouragement from three former Gamecock quarterbacks.
Connor Shaw, Dylan Thompson and Stephen Garcia all called Orth after Steve Spurrier named the junior his starter after South Carolina’s 26-22 loss to Kentucky, according to Andy Demetra of Gamecock IMG Sports Network.
Orth has done his best to pay the kindness forward, as he and fellow South Carolina quarterback Michael Scarnecchia visited the injured Mitch in the hospital on Sunday, according to David Cloninger of The State. Mitch has since been released from the hospital after being treated for an internal infection.
