Clemson fans love ’em. South Carolina fans hate ’em.
Some tortured Gamecocks longer and more painfully than others. One didn’t even really do much damage to South Carolina, as it pertained to the scoreboard, but he landed a kick that still echoes to this day.
After conducting an informal poll of trusted South Carolina fans, SEC Country has put together its list of the Top 5 Most Hated Clemson Players.
RB Yusef Kelly (2002-04)
In two games against South Carolina, Kelly totaled 12 carries for 61 yards. His place on this list has little to do with that work against the Gamecocks.
Kelly’s inclusion has everything to do with his kick during the brawl in 2004 at Clemson.

The entire scuffle can be watched below.
Kelly’s kick and the brawl as a whole was just salt on the wound. Clemson won, 29-7.
WR Rod Gardner (1997-2000)
Just ask a Clemson fan. They’ll at least admit that Gardner probably pushed off Andre Goodman in 2000.

If the photo evidence wasn’t enough, the video, commentary and all, does all the talking.
The 50-yard catch set up Aaron Hunt’s 25-yard game-winning field goal. South Carolina lost, 16-14.
QB Charlie Whitehurst (2002-05)
Whitehurst became the first quarterback in the rivalry to go 4-0. Clemson’s 63-17 win in 2003 is among the lowest points in South Carolina history. At Williams-Brice Stadium that night, Whitehurst passed for 302 yards with 4 touchdowns.
Clipboard Jesus threw for 912 yards, those 4 TDs, and 4 interceptions in four career games against the Gamecocks.
LB Ben Boulware (2013-present)
Clemson fans love Boulware. That’s reason enough for South Carolina fans to hate him, never mind the fact that he’s been one of their best players for the last few seasons.
One might say this equates to hating the best white guy on the Duke basketball team. It’s not like those guys weren’t any good: Christian Laettner, Steve Wojciechowski, J.J. Redick and Grayson Allen.
Plus, Boulware has something at his disposal that most of those Duke guys didn’t have when they were in school: Twitter.
Sorry Clemson fans, but I'm in Columbia. Ill make sure to like take a poop on the ground or something.

Chris Culliver, former Gamecock, getting burnt. Hehe.

RB C.J. Spiller (2006-09)
Clemson folks will actually try to make a case for the guy, like’s a good dude or something. South Carolina fans won’t let that kind of stuff get in the way of what happened on the football field.
In four career games against South Carolina, Spiller rushed 51 times for 349 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also caught 12 passes for 80 yards and returned 6 kickoffs for 190 yards and a touchdown.
