Steven Montac and Ty’Son Williams are now included on South Carolina’s 2016 roster.
Montac, a cornerback, spent last season at Coffeyville Community College in Kansas, the same school that sent fellow cornerback JaMarcus King to the Gamecocks. In his only season at the junior college, Montac had 17 tackles with one interception and three pass breakups.
Because he was a full qualifier out of Newton High School in Covington, Ga., Montac was able to transfer from Coffeyville after one year. According to the 247Sports composite rankings, Montac is the No. 3 ranked junior college safety in the Class of 2017. For the Gamecocks, he’ll wear the No. 12.
Williams transferred to South Carolina after one season at North Carolina. He rushed 19 times for 57 yards and caught one pass for the Tar Heels last season. Because of NCAA transfer rules, Williams will sit out this season, before he’s eligible to play in 2017. He joins the team as a walk-on, but likely will move to scholarship by next year.
As a senior at Crestwood High School in Sumter, S.C., Williams was a 4-star recruit. He’s been assigned the No. 27.
