While NFL talent evaluators tend to value film over NFL combine performances, that doesn’t make the 40-yard dash any less interesting for football fans to follow.
The drill draws lots of attention mostly because it is a simple measure of raw, straight-line speed, and because it’s never not entertaining to watch 270-pound athletic freaks running 4.5’s.
That’s exactly what former South Carolina star and No. 1 overall pick Jadeveon Clowney did in the 2014 NFL combine, completing the drill in just 4.53 seconds. For fun, the NFL’s official Twitter account shared a simulcam video comparing Clowney’s run to Houston Texans teammate J.J. Watt and elite draft prospect Joey Bosa, both incredible athletes in their own right.
And Clowney still easily sped past both former Big Ten stars. Watch below and be amazed:
