DUNCAN, S.C. — Chavis Dawkins grew up cheering for former Gamecocks Marcus Lattimore and Nick Jones.
After lighting up the Nixon Field scoreboard, just like Lattimore and Jones did at Byrnes (S.C.) High School, Dawkins is set to follow in their footsteps to the University of South Carolina.
Dawkins had 73 catches for 1,319 yards and 17 touchdowns during his senior season at Byrnes. He was also the leading receiver for the South Carolina team in the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas, with six catches for 62 yards and two scores.
Dawkins, who committed to the Gamecocks in January, is scheduled to report for Columbia on May 28.
In the video above, Dawkins talks about following in Lattimore and Jones’ footsteps, the future at South Carolina and his familiarity with offensive coordinator Kurt Roper.
