Hard work, both on the field and in the classroom, pays off. Just ask South Carolina defensive back Javon Charleston, who received a huge surprise courtesy of coach Will Muschamp after practice Tuesday when he was told that he would be receiving a scholarship:

Originally a wide receiver, Charleston has spent the past year in the secondary for the Gamecocks, mostly with the second unit. The redshirt sophomore tallied 10 tackles during his freshman campaign in 2016.
In addition to being a talented football player, Charleston also is an excellent student. In 2016, he was named to the academic honor roll and is a sociology major. Charleston is expected to reprise his role on special teams and as a backup for the Gamecocks during the upcoming season.
