The Wednesday session at the Will Muschamp Football Camp is underway and there are a few notable prospects on campus.
Satellite offer makes his way to camp
Last month, South Carolina running backs coach Bobby Bentley offered 2017 safety Chris Bell at a satellite camp in Nashville.
“I’m just blessed. First SEC offer, that’s huge for me,” Bell said, during an interview last month. “I didn’t know when I was going to get it, whether it was going to be before the season, or if I was going to get it at all. I’m just thankful.”
The 3-star prospect from Pope John Paul II High School in Hendersonville, Tenn. is ranked as the No. 123 safety in the class of 2017. Jackson State, Mercer and Tennessee State have also offered.
Running backs in the building
Joshua Samuel played his junior season at J.L. Mann High School in Greenville, S.C. before transferring to Central Gwinnett in Lawrenceville, Ga. In 2015, he rushed for 1,762 yards and 19 touchdowns.
Before Samuel got started with the combine portion of camp, he spoke with linebacker coach Coleman Hutzler. The 6-foot, 202-pound prospect is the No. 76 ranked running back in the Class of 2017. Minnesota and Illinois State have offered.
Casey Perkins, the No. 90 ranked running back in the class of 2017, made the trip from Smyrna, Tenn. The 5-foot-11, 205-pound prospect has offers from East Carolina, Marshall, Middle Tennessee, Southern Miss and Toledo.
Darius Rush, a 2018 athlete from CE Murray High School in Greeleyville, S.C., is back for his second Muschamp Camp workout. In June, the 6-foot-2, 172-pound prospect worked out as a wide receiver, and he looked impressive. Rush is expected to work at defensive back during the afternoon portion of camp.
Also back in town is Hamp Gibbs, a 6-foot-3, 254-pound defensive end from Augusta Prep Day School in Georgia. South Carolina strength coach Jeff Dillman was spotted speaking with Gibbs and his father, before camp began. The Gamecocks offered in the morning before today’s camp.
Several high schools brought players in for the Wednesday session, including Greenwood (S.C.), South Florence (Florence, S.C.) and Riverside Military Academy in Gainesville, Ga.
