South Carolina fans will have to wait a while before they know the winner of their team’s super-crowded quarterback battle.
Coach Will Muschamp announced on his Thursday night radio show that his staff will not choose a starting quarterback until the fall, according to The Charleston Post and Courier’s David Caraviello.
A big reason for this is the injuries hampering some of the prominent candidates in the competition. Lorenzo Nunez, who saw some starting action last year, sustained a hyperextended knee during practice and Muschamp said he has not been cleared for the spring game, according to Caraviello. Perry Orth was ruled out for the rest of spring with a broken collarbone last month.
The silver lining here: Touted early enrollee Brandon McIlwain should get his fair share of reps during Saturday’s Garnet & Black spring game.
