COLUMBIA, S.C. – Will Muschamp saw the early editions of Butch Jones’ Tennessee teams when he was at Florida.
On Saturday, the now South Carolina coach will see a more well-developed group in Jones’ fourth season as the Vols coach. Muschamp said he sees the level of difference makers having increased since the days he was preparing for Tennessee while he was at Florida.
“I think that when you turn the tape on, you look for difference makers and guys that jump out at you,” Muschamp said on the SEC coaches teleconference. “Guys that you would say are difference-maker type guys. How are we going to account for him? They have done a nice job of bringing those guys in.”
Muschamp named quarterback Josh Dobbs, running back Jalen Hurd and wide receivers Josh Malone and Tyler Byrd. Defensively, he singled out defensive end Derek Barnett. He also praised the overall size and depth on the offensive line.
“They’ve got a good football team,” Muschamp said. “Butch and his staff have done a fantastic job recruiting.”
Muschamp won both meetings with Jones when he was at Florida, 31-17 in 2014 and 10-9 in 2015.
