On Wednesday, South Carolina sent out an offer to Nate Thompson, a 6-foot-2, 180-pound defensive back from Southern Lee High School (Sanford, N.C.).
The 2018 prospect received the news from coach Will Muschamp.
Muschamp had plenty of good things to say about Thompson, who also lists offers from Virginia Tech, N.C. State and Charlotte.
“He told me he likes my film and likes how aggressive and how long I was,” Thompson said, “And he liked my coverage skills.”
The Gamecocks offered him as a cornerback, and the new South Carolina coach said he was “the kind of corner they look for” because of his height and length.
South Carolina will host him for his first visit to campus June 4.
“It’s big to receive an offer from the SEC, especially from one of the top schools in the conference,” Thompson said.
As a sophomore, Thompson had 35 tackles and an interception.
“I like coach Muschamp, because I know that he knows what he’s doing with South Carolina and he has a lot of experience,” Thompson said.
Virginia Tech, N.C. State, Wake Forest and Appalachian State are also scheduled to receive visits this summer.
