The Gamecocks are in search of a suitable replacement for Pharoh Cooper atop the depth chart.
Unfortunately, hamstring injuries have slowed a couple of the contenders.
According to Gamecocks coach Will Muschamp, who spoke to SEC Country at the school’s media kickoff luncheon at Williams-Brice Stadium on Thursday, South Carolina WRs Deebo Samuel and Bryan Edwards have been limited in practice because of the ailments.
However, Muschamp indicated that the team has been fortunate to avoid major injuries in camp thus far, and that Samuel and Edwards could soon return to practice, perhaps as soon as Thursday night.
Another item of note from the impromptu discussion was that running back A.J. Turner is putting himself out in front of the running back competition.
“AJ Turner has distanced himself to be our best back right now,” Muschamp said. “After that, we’ll see what happens.”
