LEXINGTON, Ky. – Will Muschamp is hopeful he will get one wide receiver back for Saturday’s game against Texas A&M (4 p.m. ET, SEC Network), but he ruled another out.
Muschamp said he expects to have Deebo Samuel back after he missed the past two weeks. He ruled freshman Randrecous Davis out for Saturday. Davis missed last Saturday’s loss at Kentucky because of a hamstring injury. He battled a hamstring tweak to the same leg in preseason camp.
The defense could receive a lift as safety Chaz Elder could return from a rib injury sooner than anticipated.
“He practiced (Sunday night),” Muschamp said. “We will see how he handles contact.”
Freshman running back Rico Dowdle practiced Sunday night as he works toward playing for the first time this season. Muschamp said Dowdle will be given opportunities in practice Tuesday and Wednesday.
“Who knows, we will see what happens,” Muschamp said.
Offensive linemen Blake Camper and Donell Stanley still are expected to be out until after South Carolina’s bye week on Oct. 15 with high ankle sprains. Linebacker Larenz Bryant also could be out until after the bye, Muschamp said Sunday.
