The best thing that could happen for Tennessee recruiting this week has already happened. The Vols received a commitment from receiver Marquez Callaway from Warner Robins (Ga.) High School. Winning.
Now, it gets more complicated. Here are some things that could make the week even better:
Mykel Jones commits to Tennessee
Alright, this is probably a bit overly optimistic, but stranger things have happened. Jones’ commitment would give the Vols’ class a monstrous boost headed down the home stretch to National Signing Day on Feb. 3. The four-star receiver from Patterson (La.) High School isn’t likely to commit to any school anytime soon, but the Vols can hope. Jones took an official visit to Alabama last weekend and will visit Ole Miss next weekend.
Jonathan Kongbo hates or loves Florida State
It seems odd calling Tennessee a fallback for Kongbo, but that’s what the Vols are. Once committed to Tennessee, Kongbo de-committed earlier this month and opened up his recruitment. The four-star defensive end from Arizona Western Junior College (Yuma, Ariz.) is scheduled to take an official visit to Florida State this weekend and Alabama on Jan. 29. There are two good things that could happen for the Vols. No. 1, Kongbo hates the schools he visits and ends up back with the Vols. No. 2, Kongo commits to Florida State so the Vols don’t have to face him.
Chris Daniels falls in love with the Vols
Tennessee should be commended for even having a chance to land Daniels, who de-committed from Oklahoma earlier this week. Daniels is a top-flight defensive tackle, which doesn’t come around often. The four-star prospect from Trinity High School (Euless, Texas) has plenty of suitors after his de-commitment, such as Texas, Texas A&M, TCU and Arkansas. It’s impossible to predict where Daniels will end up. Why not Tennessee?
