Tennessee basketball coach Rick Barnes looks to have done a pretty good job of parlaying a 26-9 season to a win on the recruiting trail.
The Vols received a commitment from 4-star center DJ Burns on Friday. He is rated as the 103rd prospect in the Class 0f 2018, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.
The 6-foot-9, 250-pound prospect could provide the Vols more size and muscle down low. Barnes’ knack for developing players could mean a bright future for the Rock Hill, S.C., native.
Tennessee lost only guards James Daniel and Chris Darrington off a 2017-18 team that ended its season in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. This could make the fit early on for Burns a little tough. If he shows commitment to defense and rebounding, though, it could help him get on the floor quicker.
It appears Barnes is trying to keep most of the rotation intact from his team last season. Burns could add some pop off the bench if he makes the rotation.
