NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Brentwood Academy 4-star prospect Camron Johnson says he’s getting “a lot of love” from Tennessee, but not enough to prevent him from showing interest in Alabama and Auburn.
Johnson, a 6-foot, 185-pound receiver in the 2018 class, said he’s going to visit the Crimson Tide on Monday, and he’s choosing to visit Coach Gus Malzahn on June 18 instead of attending Coach Butch Jones’ vaunted “Orange Carpet” day.
“I’m going to Alabama to see (Lane) Kiffin and (Nick) Saban,” said Johnson, one of several at the Vols’ so-called ’Statement’ satellite camp at Tennessee State on Sunday.
“Tennessee is up there,” he said. “They are doing some big things and getting better and better.”
Johnson, who will also squeeze in a visit to Michigan’s satellite camp in Oakland (Tennessee), is clearly building his relationship with Tennessee even as he shows interest in the rival SEC schools.
Johnson said Vols receivers coach Zach Azzanni contacts him often, and on Sunday the two had an opportunity to work together for the first time.
“Coach Z is a coach that’s going to make you work on the fine-tuning,” Johnson said. “That’s something that’s really important as far as getting to the next level.
“He definitely made me realize I need to work more on coming out of the breaks.”
Johnson said he likes Azzanni’s disposition.
“I feel like he was a little more laid back than some coaches,” Johnson said. “He’s not an in-your-face kind of guy.
