The St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes (Va.) standout is a former Virginia commit and becomes the 26th member in Tennessee’s 2017 class.
Thaxton committed to the Tennessee staff during his official visit, but wanted to wait until he got home to make the announcement.
Thaxton is the seventh defensive lineman in the class, joining Eric Crosby, Matthew Butler, Kivon Bennett, Marquez Bembry, Latrell Bumphus and Deandre Johnson. Crosby and Bennett were also on official visits to Knoxville this weekend, too.
Thaxton is ranked the No. 38 defensive end, per 247Sports Composite. He made his first trip to Knoxville this weekend.
The 6-foot-5, 250-pound end had previously planned an announcement closer to National Signing Day. He’s scheduled to take official visits to previous finalists N.C. State (Jan. 20) and Ole Miss (Jan. 27).
