Oklahoma linebacker Eric Striker had a busy week in the headlines leading up to the Sooners’ game against Tennessee on Saturday night.
He took a shot at the SEC and also made a comment about how he wasn’t impressed with Tennessee running back Jalen Hurd.
Following No. 19 Oklahoma’s double-overtime win on Saturday night, Striker was celebrating with Oklahoma fans when No. 23 Tennessee coach Butch Jones approached him about his behavior.
Jones apparently ran a long way to deliver a message to the Oklahoma star.
“(My teammate) got the pick, and I ran over there talking to our fans and saying, ‘Yeah, yeah’ to all their fans, and (Jones) grabbed me and said, ‘Eric, you’re a helluva player, but have some damn class,'” said Striker, according to ESPN.com’s Chris Low.
Striker said he played off the comments, which may be the first classy thing he’s done all week.
“I just shrugged it off. I didn’t say anything back, but I didn’t see what was so classless about that,” Striker said, according to ESPN.com. “I was just passionate. I’m a passionate competitor. If we win, I’m going to stick my chest out a little bit. But I wasn’t trying to be classless. I was looking at their fans and our fans. I didn’t see anything wrong with it.”
Jones supposedly went way out of his way to approach Striker after the game. It’s also unclear whether Jones was referring to Striker’s post-game antics or his brash comments throughout the week.
My guess is a little bit of both.
