Tennessee fans should expect to see more of the Volunteers donning the “Smokey Grey” uniforms going forward. Coach Butch Jones is apparently a big fan of the alternate outfit.
Jones told fans at a Big Orange Caravan event in Chattanooga that Tennessee will continue to break out the uniforms that were designed in the spirit of the Smoky Mountains.
“They were named the uniform of the year, and I thought it was great,” Jones told fans, according to 247Sports.com’s Wes Rucker. “I thought that was a great addition, and we’re not changing ‘em. They’ll be the same. And we’re making a tradition of that.”
Although not unanimously revered, the “Smokey Grey” kit was named Uniswag’s Uniform of the Year last season. The Vols are also undefeated while wearing the “Smokey Grey” unis. Tennessee rallied from a 24-3 deficit to beat UGA, 38-31, in the uniform’s debut at Neyland Stadium in October.
