Tennessee junior Jalen Hurd is the best running back in the country, at least according to coach Butch Jones.
Jones told media Tuesday night that Hurd is the full package as a running back, and can do just about anything out of the backfield.
“Jalen Hurd is a three-down running back,” Jones said, as reported by ESPN Nashville’s Zach Bingham. “He can get the tough yards, he can be elusive, he can pass protect, he can catch the football out of the backfield. He’s a weapon. He’s very determined and when you throw his size and stature in, I think he’s the best back in the country.”
Hurd is coming off of an exceptional sophomore season, during which he rushed for 1,288 yards and 12 touchdowns. But he might not even be the best running back in the SEC. LSU’s Leonard Fournette should have something to say about that after rushing for nearly 2,000 yards and 22 touchdowns during his own sophomore season. Hurd also shares the backfield with the electrifying Alvin Kamara, who serves as a pass-catching threat as well as a runner.
Who would’ve thought expectations in Knoxville, Tenn., could get any higher?
