It’s been only a couple of hours since the Cal Bears fired head coach Sonny Dykes, but there is reportedly already a favorite for the job, according to Yahoo’s Pat Forde, and it’s a familiar one to Tennessee fans: former Volunteers defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox.
Just up for air after writing a column: Sonny Dykes getting $6 million severance from Cal, per source. All eyes on Wisco DC Justin Wilcox.

The current defensive coordinator at Wisconsin, Wilcox was a member of Derek Dooley’s staff for the 2010 and 2011 seasons. The Vols went 11-14 over those two seasons. Since leaving Tennessee after the 2011 season, Wilcox has been the defensive coordinator at Washington and USC, in addition to Wisconsin, so the Pac-12 is a familiar place if Wilcox is ultimately selected for the job.
