Mike Canales reportedly is close to becoming Tennessee’s next quarterbacks coach.
GoVols247 reported Wednesday night that the Volunteers “will imminently name” Canales to the role. 247Sports reported that Canales, who worked this past season as Utah State’s running backs coach, is the only of Tennessee’s various candidates to be quarterbacks coach who received two in-person, on-campus interviews. He was in Knoxville on Monday, 247Sports reported.
Tennessee needed a quarterbacks coach after Central Michigan hired graduate assistant Nick Sheridan.
Multiple candidates were interviewed for Tennessee’s open quarterbacks coach job, per earlier 247Sports reports, including Ken Dorsey (Carolina Panthers QB coach), Jeff Durden (Richmond OC), Kevin O’Connell (San Francisco 49ers assistant) and Chris Weinke (former Los Angeles Rams coach).
